Pope Francis

Pope Francis is the current bishop of Rome and the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church. He was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He became the 266th pope when he was elected on March 13, 2013, succeeding Pope Benedict XVI. Pope Francis is known for his emphasis on humility, compassion, and social justice, as well as his focus on addressing issues such as poverty, environmental sustainability, and the need for interfaith dialogue. His papacy has been marked by a more pastoral and inclusive approach compared to some of his predecessors, aiming to make the church more accessible and relevant to contemporary society. He is the first pope from the Americas and the first Jesuit pope.
