Football

Football, commonly referred to as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net using any part of the body except the arms and hands, which are only allowed for goalkeepers within their own penalty area. The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, typically grass or artificial turf, marked with specific lines for various aspects of play, such as boundaries and goal areas.

The game is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), and it is widely recognized as one of the most popular sports globally. Football is played at various levels, from amateur and youth leagues to professional leagues and international competitions, including tournaments like the FIFA World Cup and continental championships. The sport promotes teamwork, strategy, and physical fitness and has significant cultural, economic, and social impacts in many countries.
